DIY time...

Vandaag heb ik een leuk DIY projectje gedaan. Het is heel gemakkelijk en het resultaat mag er zijn.
Ik heb namelijk een nieuwe label writer. Mijn oude Dymo is helaas gesneuveld maar het oude beestje had ook al 27 jaar trouwe dienst geleverd. De nieuwe is van het merk Motex en er zijn ook vele leuke tapejes bij te koop. In alle kleuren van de regenboog.

Het DIY project is: windlicht met quotes

Wat heb je nodig:
- grote glazenpot (schoon en ontdaan van label) ik heb een grote mayonaise pot gebruikt
- Motex tape writer
- Motex of Dymo tape (speciaal voor een lettertang)
- een heleboel leuke quotes of een mooi gedicht

Kies een aantal leuke quotes uit en werk deze uit op een kleur tape naar keuze. Kijk of je genoeg hebt om rondom de glazen pot te beplakken. Plak de qoute tapejes  op de glazen pot en klaar!









Het is heel erg gemakkelijk om te maken dus en ook erg leuk voor een verjaardag met uitspraken van de jarige of met kerst en zinnen uit kerstliedjes.

Ik ben er erg blij mee en zet ze mooi op de tuintafel neer voor als we lekker buiten zitten vanavond.

Today I did a great DIY project. Recently I bought a new label/tape writer like the old fashioned Dymo. The new one is a pink tapewriter by the Korean brand Motex. And available in several colours the tape is available in all the colours of the rainbow.

The project is a candle holder with tapes with quotes

What do you need:
- a large glass jar (clean and no labels on it)
- Motex tape writer
- Motex or Dymo tape (for tapewriter)
- Lots of quotes, a poem or lyrics

Pick a few quotes and put them on tape. Check how many you need to wrap around the jar.
Stick the quotes on the jar. And done!

Also fun to use for weddings, birthdays and Christmas.

Iam very happy with the results and I 'll put them on the garden table for a romantic evening.

Cinnamon rolls...

Ik heb een heerlijk recept gevonden op 24 Kitchen. Voor wie van koken houd en nog niet bekend is met 24 kitchen: Chef Rudolph van Veen heeft deze tv zender opgericht met 24 uur per dag allerlei kook programma's van diverse chef's.

Het recept voor Zweedse kaneel bollen komt van het programma "the taste of life travel"

Het recept vind je via onderstaande link (met bijpassend filmpje met uitleg). Erg lekker voor een groot feestelijk ontbijt.

De kaneel bollen liggen wel zwaar op de maag dus ik raad aan om met de in het recept genoemde ingrediënten meer dan 10 bollen te maken. Als je 12/14 bollen maakt zijn ze groot zat als lekkere snack bij de koffie of ontbijt. Als je voor het deeg 100 gram en voor de vulling 120 gram suiker gebruikt is dit zoet genoeg want er gaat ook nog suiker over.

English summary: The Dutch food channel 24 kitchen has 24 hours of cooking shows. I've found a great recipe for cinnamon rolls and they are delicious. The recipe is inspired by the Swedish cinnamon rolls and chef Rudolph van Veen wrote it down for us to bake.

I tried it and loved it.

So here it is:

Ingredients for 12/14 rolls
filling
150g almonds
150g sugar (I used 120g)
100g butter
8 tea sp cinnamon powder
4  table sp water

dough
500 ml milk
150g butter
12g drie yeast
1 tea sp salt
120g sugar (I used 100g)
1 tea sp cardamom
850g flower

1 egg for topping
sugar for topping

Filling: chop almonds in food processor till very fine and mix with sugar, butter, cinnamon and water till soft doh. Dough: slowly heat the milk and butter until melted and mix it with the rest of the ingredients for the dough. When mixed knead to a smooth dough. Put it in a bowl covered with plastic wrap and leave it there in a warm spot to rise for 30 minutes. Roll out dough until it is about 4mm thick. (make sure it is square shaped) Cover half of the dough with the filling and fold the other half over. The filling is in between the dough layers. Cut 12/14 long pieces and roll it around your hand to make a roll. Put it on a baking tray and leave them there to rise for 20 minutes. Mix the egg and gently brush the rolls with the egg. Then add some sugar and bake the rolls for about 15/20 minute until golden in a pre heat oven on 200 degrees C.

Places to go...Berlin

Ik ben gek op reizen and deel de mooie en inspirerende plekken op aarde graag met jullie. Vorig jaar hebben jullie al iets kunnen lezen over een gaaf hotel in Madrid. Ik wil een andere plek ook graag delen en dat is Berlijn.

Berlijn is een enorm grote stad met veel (zware) historie. Ik deel nu graag de lichtpuntjes uit deze stad,  de wijk die ik graag met jullie deel is Prenzlauer berg. Deze wijk is mooi opgezet. Hoge panden met kleine portiekjes, balkonnetjes in brede straten. Deze wijk schijnt steeds bekender te worden en sinds 10 jaar in opkomst.

Er zijn daarom ook erg veel leuke restaurantjes, cafés en boetiekjes. Veel boetiekjes verkopen 'Berlin design' en leuke gadgets en ontwerpen. Er word veel gebruik gemaakt van vintage meubels en gerecyclede materialen.

Een van mijn favorieten is: Kauf dich gluecklich. Dit cafe annex winkel is voorzien meubels uit de jaren 50-70 in combinatie met blond hout en Scandinavische accessoires. Je kan er op zaterdag en zondag ontbijten en de rest van de week heerlijk genieten van verse wafels met koffie of thee. Of een lekker ijsje.

De muren zijn voorzien met houten boxen waarin allerlei inspirerende boeken, servies, accessoires etc. staan die ook te koop zijn.

Verder heb je natuurlijk ook nog het centrum waar je de toeristische trekpleisters, mooie gedenkt tekens en monumenten van de 2e wereld oorlog kan vinden en nog meer moois dat echt Berlijns is.

En vergeet vooral niet zo'n lekkere currywurst te eten!

Hopelijk heb ik binnenkort meer inspirerende plekken om over te schrijven.

I love traveling and I love to share places I have been with you. Last year I wrote about an interesting hotel in Madrid and now I love to tell you something about a few inspiring places in Berlin.

Berlin has a large history and lots memorials for al the victims of world war two. I'd like to share the positive site of Berlin. For me Prenzlauer berg is the most interesting district in Berlin. I love the small shops, restaurants and tall houses. The people are very friendly and they all use a lot of vintage and recycled stuff. A lot of restaurants have used old furniture to sit on and that give's Berlin a special atmosphere.

The whole atmosphere is relaxed and it is fun to be in this neighborhood even when it is raining ;-)

Hopefully there will be more places to write about soon...

Neon alphabet...

Ik heb onlangs een geweldige lamp gekocht op de vlooienmarkt. Het is een oude gevel letter met peertjes erin in de vorm van de letter J.

Ik ben er erg blij mee maar hij is eigenlijk voor ons nieuwe huis dat momenteel nog in aanbouw is. De lamp krijgt een plekje in onze lounge naast stoere oude filmposters en andere industriële accessoires.
Ik kan niet wachten tot het klaar is.

Maar tot die tijd heb ik een andere manier gevonden om van deze lamp te genieten. Hij past namelijk ook erg goed bij de neon trend. In combinatie met wat Zweeds design (Ikea) 😉 en een paar leuke quote posters met letters en symbolen en een paar lekkere kleur accenten in fluor roze en fluor geel.

Dus voorlopig staat het prima in huidige huis maar ik kan niet wachten tot ik in het nieuwe huis weer aan de slag kan gaan.

Poster in black frame is a free printable I found on internet... (can't remember where)

English summary:

Recently I've bought some great lighting for out new home. I found it on a flee market and it is an old J-shaped light with small lightbulbs in it.

Our new house is being build at this moment so I have to be patient. I think this lamp will look great in our lounge next to some old movie posters.

I have to wait a few months but just found out that this lamp is also great with the trend to mix graphic posters, letters and glyphs. I've mixed it with neon coloured accents and I love it!

The rough industrial look of our J light mixed with funny quote posters and an accent of neon pink and yellow.

For the time being I will leave it like this in our recent home and I can't wait to do it all over again in our new home.

Pretty design by Rie Elise Larsen...

Ik heb weer een pareltje gevonden! Ik kan niet ontkennen dat het weer Deens design is en kan niet wachten tot ik eindelijk naar Kopenhagen kan om nog meer van dit moois te bekijken.

Het merk heet Rie Elise Larsen en is vernoemd naar de ontwerpster. Rie ontwerpt alles zelf. Na jaren als stylist gewerkt te hebben heeft ze in 2008 haar eerste collectie gelanceerd. Haar werk is te herkennen aan kleurrijke mini dessins bestaande uit geometrische vormen. Een groot deel van de collectie word in India met de hand gefabriceerd.

Je word er echt vrolijk van. De dozen met geometrisch dessin passen perfect in mijn kantoor en de strijkijzer snoeren zijn een mooie match met de witte rijstpapieren lampen die ik boven mijn eettafel wil hangen.

De collectie bestaat verder nog uit: pakpapier, ansichtkaarten, thee doeken, haakjes, verlichting en kerst decoratie.

I found another pearl of Danish design. This colourful brand is named Rie Elise larsen after the designer.

Rie Elise Larsen has been working as a stylist for many years and launched her first collection in 2008. You can recognize her work by the mix of small geometric patterns and bright colours. Most of the products are manufactured in India by hand.

I love the boxes with small geometric patterns, they will be perfect in my office... and have you seen those textile cables? The neon pink and soft green will be great with the simple ricepaper lamps I have.

The collection also contains wrapping paper, postcards, lampshades, tea towels, hooks and christmas decoration.

Scandinavian brands part 4

Ik ben gek op Scandinavisch design en deel dat graag  met jullie. Een van m'n favoriete merken is het Deense Ferm living. Inmiddels is dit een merk dat al aardig wat publiciteit heeft gehad (en heeft verdiend). Ik wil er toch een aantal nieuwe dessins uitlichten.

Ferm verkoopt diverse woonaccessoires maar ook behang, keuken spul en leuke kinder accessoires.
Alle dessins zijn voorzien van een simpel grafisch dessin en er zit humor in deze collectie. Producten hebben een grappige vorm en hebben prachtige Scandinavische kleuren.

Een groot deel van de collectie is verantwoord geproduceerd van biologisch katoen, de kussens en theedoeken zijn hand geprint dus dat maakt het allemaal nog mooier.

I love Scandinavian design and sharing it with you. One of my favorite brands is the Danish brand Ferm living. There has been some attention to Ferm in the press, magazines and the web but I could not resist sharing a few of there great designs because they deserve the attention.

Ferm living has a large collection of interior accessories, kitchen stuff and kids accessories. All the design they create has a sense of humor by the shape or pattern on it. I love the Scandinavian colour use.

And good to know is that a large part of their collection is made of organic cotton and printed by hand.

Enoki Culumus light...

Tijdens mijn zoektoch naar mooi design voor inspiratie maar ook voor onze nieuwe woning stuitte ik op het merk Enoki.

Enoki is een Australisch merk dat is opgericht door interieur en meubel ontwerpster Susanna Bilardo en grafish ontwerper Judd Crush. Sinds de samerwerking van deze twee ontwerpers hebben ze veel verschillende producten, interieurs etc. ontworpen. Inmiddels werken er verschillende designers bij Enoki.

Mijn favoriete ontwerp is de "culumus light". Een geweldige lamp die lijkt op een wolk. Het leuke aan dit ontwerp is dat de lamp van binnen heel technisch in elkaar zit en er vrij industrieel uit ziet. Als je de lamp bedekt met de voile witte kap word het ontwerp ineens heel erg vrouwelijk en zacht.

Je kan kiezen uit diverse stoffen voor de kap en ook uit 4 kleuren strijkijzer snoer. Als je liever een kap met dessin wilt kan je dat opvragen en hebben ze in kleine oplagen ook mooi kappen met bijvoorbeeld een grafisch dessin er op.

Ik vind het erg leuk dat je van een mooi stofje je eigen kap kan maken als leuk DIY project als je uitgekeken bent op de bestaande kap...

During my search for inspiration for our new home I found an Australian brand named Enoki. Enoki was formed in 2001 by interior/furniture designer Susanna Bilardo and designer/illustrator Judd Crush.

Enoki was founded when these 2 designers started working together with a broad and diverse range of clients. Nowadays there is a whole team of designers responsible for there multi-diciplinary designs

They created a beautiful light named Culumus light. The Columbus light looks like a cloud when covered with a white shade. 

The structure inside is very technical and smart. When covered with the shade this pendant light looks crisp and feminine. There are several colours in shades available and you can pick one of the 4 colours for the wire.

I love the fact that you can design your own (great DIY project) cover when you're done with the original...
