Thai patterns...

English summary:
Last month I came home from a amazing holiday in Thailand. We started in Bangkok and went South in a circle back to Bangkok.

For me as a stylist and pattern designer it is so inspirational to see how other cultures decorate. That's why I'd love to share a few patterns I've spotted in Bangkok.

The Thai culture is beautiful and they use a lot of decoration in their ancient buildings and temples. The decorations are all made by hand.; woodcarving, subtile paintings of the Thai history, handpainted flower patterns on different materials like: ceramic tiles, wood and mother of pearl.

It is so pretty to see all these different kind of decorations. Most of the time they are mixed all together (something we wouldn't do in western cultures). Goldleaf, glasstiles, mother of pearl 3D ceramic tiles is a lot to mix in one building and for us might be too much. And that is what you find in the Grand Palace in Bangkok. But when you look closer and separate all the decorations you see how beautiful they are and how much time and energy it take to create this.

My only advise can be: If you have the opportunity, visit Bangkok and take a close look at all those pretty patterns.
