Flatout Frankie...

English summary:
I recently discovered this great kids "toys" brand named Flatout Frankie. They have great collection of toys made out of cardboard. The cardboard objects have a simple but elegant design made in only white.

They are so much fun! The product you buy is in a flat package (hence the name: Flatout Frankie). You fold it until it becomes the object you bought, an airplane, race car or unicorn. But there are also dragons for the boys and dollhouses. An other product I like is the cardboard alphabet. The letters have a pretty white pattern and would look great on a wall of a child's room and you can use the back stencil to draw giant letters.

Iam a fan! check the website for sales information all over the world.

Lappalou, fun with recycled blankets

English summary:
Lappalou is a sustainable Dutch brand created by designer Jacqueline. The designs are made by employees of the sheltered workshop Sherpa and have a mental disability. All the products are created  with great effort.

The designs are made of old wool blankets with the most divers patterns. Some have a vintage or retro look because of the patterns and colours but there are also designs in soft pastels which fit perfectly to the modern trends.

I love to mix a product in my interior designs.  They are great for the warm winter look but also perfect to use on your summer porch or garden bench.

The collection contains: pillows, storage wall bags, storage containers, stools in different shapes and sizes and lovely garlands in shape of hearts, dots and boys or girls silhouettes.

show-up 2014

Last monday I went to show-up 2014. This event is for interior and accessories brands and webshop owners from The Netherlands and a few from France and Belgium. It is on a very small scale. Simple but sophisticated stand design and a nice fresh atmosphere. I'd like to share a few inspiring pictures of some design, patterns and brands.

All gift wrapping ideas and pretty wrapping papers @ kadodesign.nl

I was curious about what new design I would find there and if there are new trends. In my opinion there was not that much new design but there where a few trend which are continuing ths year:
- small graphical patterns in black and white
- small graphical patterns in pastel and neon (still neon for the consumers market)
- illustrations that look pendrawn, thin lines in black and white
- paper, cardboard, cork and wood. Natural materials that keep their natural looks. Plain, simple and matted.
- wrapping paper in the most vibrant and pretty patterns
- stamps, small and great for a tiny accent on your letters, giftwraps etc.
- gift tags with pretty patterns

Even though there were not that much new trends it was inspiring to be there.

Cookies & tea...

550 gr. bloem
180 gr. basterd suiker wit of bruin
25 gr. bakpoeder
180 gr. kristalsuiker
2 tl. vanille extract
10 gr. zout
300 gr. pure chocolade in grove stukken gehakt
100 gr. fudge in stukjes gehakt
2 eieren

English summary:

Imagine a rainy winter day, what to do? How about baking cookies? And when they are finished eat them laying on the couch with a fresh cup of tea and a good book or magazine.

First I check what ingredients I have at home... Yes, there will be chocolate-chip cookies with tiny pieces of fudge in them.

For me the perfect cup of tea is not black tea with milk but green tea, jasmin or white tea. And no prefabricated teabags please! At least not today. I have bought those beautiful teaflowers when I was in Thailand. They are not only pretty to look at, but also have a subtile taste. Put one teaflower in a glass teapot or give everybody their own cup with teaflower and poor water when they run dry. Pretty and delicious.

What ingredients do you need for those lovely cookies:

550 gr. plain flower
180 gr. caster sugar white or brown
25 gr. baking powder
180 gr. sugar
10 gr. salt
2 tsp. vanilla flavor.
250 gr. butter (I choose to use coconut oil, which is healthier than butter)
300 gr. dark chocolate chopped in chunks
100 gr. fudge chopped in small chunks
2 eggs

Preheat the oven on 190 degrees C.
Mix the sugar, butter and eggs to a smooth mixture. Mix the flower, bakingpowder, salt and add slowly to the sugar/butter mixture.
Knead the doh till smooth and add the chocolate and fudge chunks. It is best to use a kitchen aid to knead the doh because you don't want the chocolate to melt in you hands.

Make little balls and flatten them on a with baking-paper lined baking-tray. Make sure that there is enough room between the cookies (about 2 cm) because they will expand a little.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 12 minutes max. depending on the darkness of the cookie 8 minutes can be long enough.

Let them cool down on a griddle and it's time for cookies and tea!
